If the recoil wheel has broken on the original, then it is advisable to check the oil level and valve settings.
As an engine settles in, the valve clearances can change. When the valve settings are off, it creates a higher compression, which makes the engine harder to start and adds extra pressure to the Recoil parts.
Valve settings can be found in our 'Cylinder Head Parts' listings, (if available for your generator,) along with a video to show you how to do the job! If there is too much oil in the engine, it will also change the compression ratio. Remove any excess oil.
If you oil the rope with petroleum jelly, it will stop the rope from fraying.

It works on my generator. Glad I don't have to rewind the pull-cord with a stick or screw driver, anymore. The color (black) isn't Factory, anymore, and I couldn't care less. Shipping took almost 5 weeks, but it got here before our first weather-related outage. Thanks Guru

Much Better than Original Equipment

My generator recoil starter unit gave up the ghost after three years. HF referred me to Generator Guru for a replacement. The order arrived within 2 days and fit perfectly. The recoil unit has more tension in the spring than the original (lack of tension is why the original failed) and the connector cup is of heavier gauge steel. I expect this recoil starter unit will last much longer than the original unit.

The recoil is better material when the one I replaced.I am sure glad the shorter connector cup was included.I think these new replacement parts will hold up for a long time. And note to Guru. Great FAST service. I am telling every one to check you out.
