When changing this part we would suggest changing the Mechanical Seal as wear to one will damage the other. This Seal sits behind the Impeller. It retains the water flowing through the Pump and maintains the pressure on the Impeller needed for the Pump to function efficiently.
Also be sure to inspect the Volute Casing and the Impeller for wear or cracking. A full failure of either part can result in the whole pump being smashed apart, as the engine turns the Pump at 3000 to 3600 rpm, and any metal breaking off will surely do massive damage to the Pump workings and casing.
We also highly recommend you replace the O-Ring Seals when reassembling the Pump. Old O-Ring seals can crack and pinch, causing a loss in pressure and water leakage from the Pump casing.
