Description

Please Note when buying a replacement Generator AVR:

  • If you only have 2 wires going to this part, you in fact have a capacitor fitted. Please click here to buy the correct product. (They look similar but are very different parts!)
  • Not all AVR's are the same (though many look similar to each other). You must match the correct AVR to your Generator or you can damage your alternator.   (If you came directly to this page we highly suggest you be sure this is the right AVR. Start your search here.)
  • Only buy an AVR from a Generator Specialist. Most AVRs sold by non-generator specialists are sold cheap as they are an excess part from a manufacturing run for an unknown alternator design, or have failed quality control. These may not be of good quality and most likely are not designed for your particular Alternator. If they are faulty, or not built for your alternator, this can cause overheating and possibly a fire. Being that this fire will come out of the alternator, which is situated under the fuel tank, this can be a disaster and cause an explosion.

We guarantee that the AVRs we sell are of the highest quality.

A replacement Automatic Voltage Regulator

Grade: Maintainance Grade "A" -built to the highest standards, with copper bushing that provides long life and reduction to the wear and tear experienced during the day-to-day operation of your Generator.

Generator Guru Says:

The AVR is essential to your Generator producing electricity. It is required to excite the Alternator windings and reduce voltage surges. An AVR should last for a minimum of 5000 hours, but can burn out if any of the following occur:

  • Generator user has tried to draw more power than the Generator can produce. (i.e. Equipment plugged in when starting generator/turning on breakers switch or too many items plugged in.)
  • A surge has happened on equipment the generator was running. (Faulty equipment plugged into generator. Replace AVR and test with different equipment plugged in. If only fails when a certain item is plugged in we highly suggest getting it tested by a qualified electrician.)
  • A surge has happened within the generator alternator. (foreign object has entered the alternator bridging the wires or wrong AVR replacement installed previously.)
  • The Alternator has got wet/damp and electricity has surged across the windings.

Sometime when an AVR has blown this can be due to an alternator fault. Remove the AVR and check for any smell of electrical burning coming from the alternator. If you smell burning, please see our video below for testing procedures before buying a replacement AVR.

    Correct part and fixed

Posted by William Thompson on 29th Oct 2020

Fitted and fixed in 5 minutes. Took 1 days to arrive to me by fedex shipping. I am happy. Originally i was trying to save money but the Ebay company sent wrong one and from what i understand now could have burned out my alternator. Cost me more in the end as i lost work for not having my generator working. Next time i will got to generator guru first. They deserve this 5 star review.
