This part will wear out over time. It is used to conduct the current from the rotor to the AVR. Your brushes should protrude 13mm from the housing to make a stable connection with the rotor. Remove the brushes before measuring.

Generator burned up brushes out here in Arizona desert. Harbor Freight (where we purchased it) said it would take 6-8 weeks to get the replacement. Generator Guru had the part and shipped it right out---from Europe, no less, and we were up and running in 8 days! Thanks Generator Gurus! You have a customer for life!!
