Generator Guru says:
If the recoil wheel has broken on the original, then it is advisable to check the oil level. If there is too much oil in the engine it will also change the compression ratio. Remove any excess oil.
If you oil the rope with petroleum jelly it will stop the rope from fraying.
If you are having issues starting the Generator, why not open a support ticket with one of our Generator Engineers. It should be easy to pull over the engine.

recoil starter assembly good for older generator

Have a very old 1000w generator. Three out of 4 screws fit perfectly except for the top right. You could drill a hole if you wish but I feel that the other perfect fit screws will hold this assembly in place. Generatoruguru is a great place to get parts. I would order again, order came in quicker than I thought. Thank you,
