Description
Replacement Cylinder Head Gasket.
Generator Guru says:
Sometimes these can fail during operation. This is usually obvious by black smoke coming from the engine or a lack of compression. Replacing this part and adjusting the valves should rectify the problem. (If you need valve settings please contact us.)
Before replacing also check if the Piston Rings are in good order. An easy test is to put a tablespoon of fresh oil on the piston and leave overnight. If the oil has disappeared then the piston rings need replacing too.
It is advised to replace the Cylinder Head Gasket each time you open the Cylinder. As these are crush seal gaskets they can easily bend when removed. Even the smallest bend can:
A) allow air into the cylinder changing the air/fuel mixture
B) can cause a significant loss of horsepower.
C) allow oil to be pulled into the head making the engine burn rich.
Not replacing this part during repairs often results in hours of extra work trying to find out why it is not running smoothly after a repair.
